March 4, Security Info for Upcoming Events

Good Evening, OHS Families!

As we continue to heal together, we are excited to reintroduce some familiar activities and experiences at OHS. We know now more than ever that our high school is more than an academic center. It is a place where we build our community. To that end, we have a few upcoming community events at OHS. We are proud to be hosting the Regional MSBOA Band Festival today, March 4 and tomorrow, March 5. Next Saturday, March 12, we are having a Spring Fling dance in the OHS Commons and Gyms. Additionally, we will have the school musical, "Newsies," performances at OHS March 17-20.

These upcoming events were carefully planned with safety and security as our top priority. The safety protocols put in place at these events will be similar to those students have experienced during our school day. Police have been advised of the events and we will have our school security and private security guards on-site. Here are some safety items specific to each event:

Band Festival:

There will be no student bags, backpacks, or purses permitted. All instrument cases will be checked prior to building entry. OCSO will perform extra patrols of our campus and a deputy will be on-site. A private security officer and a school security officer will be on-site both days.

Spring Fling:

There will be no student bags, backpacks, or purses permitted. Due to the large number of students expected, we will have two deputies present. Several OHS staff members will supervise the event, as usual. Additionally, one private security officer and our school security officer will be on-site. Student entry will be monitored closely by these security personnel along with school administration and will include ID checks for both students and authorized guests. Guests must register prior to the event for a Dance Pass. Each guest student's sending principal must complete the application for final attendance approval. Guest students will follow the same entry procedures as OHS students. Mental health professionals will be on-site for any urgent emotional needs that may arise.

Musical:

There will be no student bags, backpacks, or  purses  permitted. OCSO will perform extra patrols of our campus and two private security officers will be on-site for every performance.

We hope the additional security measures help our students, parents, and visitors to feel safe so they can focus on enjoying these events. It has been a joy to see the excitement for these events from our students in recent weeks. It is with their continued input and feedback that we have found the way forward together.
