August 24, Sprinkler System Repairs Being Made

Dear OHS Families,

The traditional senior girls’ overnight that takes place at OHS each year the night before the school year begins was a great experience last night!  It also included an unexpected fire alarm that was determined to be caused by a short in the sprinkler system panel. At the sound of the alarm last night, everyone in the building did evacuate. The Oxford Fire Department and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Officers immediately responded and determined the problem. They, along with our building security team, and female staff chaperones quickly brought the girls back into the building safely once it was all clear. Out of an abundance of caution, the fire department checked the entire building and found it to be safe to continue the event. The alarm did sound again at 2:30am and it was confirmed that it was due to the same issue.  That said, students were not required to evacuate and activities continued as planned. Throughout the evening, our students responded to the unusual experience with patience and resilience.  The girls are currently enjoying the last of their event together and genuinely looking forward to what their senior year has to offer.

Eagle Alarm systems is fixing the short in the sprinkler panel today.  This morning during advisory class, within all OHS students’ scheduled welcome back information, they will be learning/reviewing the building evacuation procedures.  Should the alarm sound again today, students will evacuate the building with their classes and then return with the all clear through EVOLV at doors 1,2, and 17.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon and for the start of a great 2023-24 school year together.

Sincerely,
Dacia Beazley, Principal
