Welcome to my classroom! My name is Marina Gillett. I  was born in Brazil and moved to Michigan when I was 9 years old. When I moved here I spoke fluent Portuguese and Spanish, but not a word of English. School was not easy to navigate until I became more fluent in the English language. I went on to graduate from Walled Lake Central and then attended Michigan State University to acquire a degree in Nutritional Sciences. I worked as a Nutritionist for Oakland County’s Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Program full time for a year and continued working there part time during college breaks from Medical School. I attended the Osteopathic Medical School at Michigan State University (MSU COM) and did my medical rotations at McLaren Oakland Pontiac and various other hospitals in the state of Michigan. From there I went on to teach the medical foundations courses (Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology, Medical Law & Ethics, and Medical Terminology) at Sanford Brown College until it was closed down due to the economy. My passion for teaching and getting students to see all the different possibilities there are in the medical profession led me to a position at Oakland Schools Technical Campus working with students in the Health Sciences program and being a HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) advisor for 6 years. In 2019 I began teaching at Oxford High School and continue to be the HOSA Advisor.

I am married and a mother to two children who have changed my life from the moment I found out I was pregnant! They continue to make me slow down and see all the beautiful things life has to offer in the smallest of moments. We truly enjoy traveling as a family and we love spending time up north on the water. Our dog Maui might like up north the best!
